Information for former Black Cat Networks customers

In August 2007, Mythic Beasts acquired Black Cat Networks' virtual hosting and domain registration business. This page provides information on the acquisition, including what's changing and what's not.

Services transferred

The following services have been transferred to Mythic Beasts:

Email and Web hosting (tuschin)
Shell account hosting (limo and smokey)
Mailing list hosting
Domain registration
SSL Certificates
Secondary MX

Although it is our intention to carry on providing exactly the same service, at the same price, with minimal disruption, there are a number of areas in which changes are unavoidable. These are detailed below.

The blackcatnetworks.co.uk domain

We do not control the blackcatnetworks.co.uk domain, so all references to hosts within this domain will have to change. The primary changes you should be aware of are listed below. A complete list of old and new names is available.

Hosting machines

The name of your hosting machine (e.g. tuschin, limo or smokey) used for uploading files, retrieving emails or connecting via SSH will change to an equivalent name in the mythic-beasts.com domain (e.g. tuschin.mythic-beasts.com)

Database servers

The name of the database servers changes to mysql.bcn.mythic-beasts.com and postgres.bcn.mythic-beasts.com. You will need to update any references to the old names in your CGI scripts.

mail.blackcatnetworks.co.uk

mail.blackcatnetworks.co.uk becomes mx.mythic-beasts.com. If you use authenticated SMTP to send mail, you should change the host to mx.mythic-beasts.com.

MX records for domains under our control are currently in a transitional phase of pointing to mail.bcn.mythic-beasts.com, but this will change to mx.mythic-beasts.com in due course.

Nameservers

References to Black Cat Networks' nameservers will also need to be updated, but should not be changed yet. Again, we will make the necessary changes for domains under our control.

Billing and the Account Control Panel

Black Cat Networks customers are able to log in to our customer control panel at https://secure.mythic-beasts.com/control/customer using their old Black Cat Networks customer number and password. We are currently working to replicate all of the functions previously available under the Black Cat customer control panel.

At present, the process for billing and renewals is a little different. As before, domain registrations must be explicitly renewed using the web interface. All other services will be renewed and invoiced automatically at the end of the billing period, unless you instruct us otherwise. It is not currently possible to explicitly renew services ahead of time using the control panel, but this will be added shortly.
