Email for your domain
You can configure the mail settings for your domain using the Email Control Panel, part of the Account Control Panel.
Email Control Panel
The Email Control Panel allows you to create aliases within your domain. These aliases can either forward mail to another address, or place mail in a POP3 mailbox for downloading.
POP3 mailboxes
If you create POP3 mailboxes, you should also set the password for the mailboxes. Once created, you can change the password for a POP3 mailbox here - you need only the mailbox password and not the domain password to do this.
POP3 mailboxes can be accessed using either POP3, or POP3 with SSL encryption. The settings for your mail client are as follows:
-
The POP3 (incoming) server name is
mail.yourdomain.com -
The username is the full email address of the mailbox, e.g.
user@yourdomain.com. Some mail programs cannot cope with the@in the username. In this case you can use=, for example,user=yourdomain.com. - For your outgoing (SMTP) server you should use your ISP or network's SMTP server. If your ISP or network prevents you from sending email with a From address outside of their domain then we may be able to allow you to use our server as a relay. Please see the SMTP AUTH support topic for more information.
It is possible and probably desirable to use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption when accessing virtual POP3 boxes. Currently it is not possible to use IMAP to access virtual mailboxes. If you wish to use IMAP, you can forward aliases to your shell account and retrieve your mail from there. Note, however, that some desktop anti-virus software can cope only with non-secured POP3 traffic on the standard port number (110), and if you use a virus scanner, check that it supports secured operation before using this feature.
Unknown aliases
The Email Control Panel allows you to control the behaviour for aliases within your domain that you have not defined. You can either forward them all to a particular address, or you can have them bounced as a non-existant address. If you choose the former, be prepared to receive some unsolicited email - it would appear that some spammers will send email to randomly generated addresses within registered domains.
